Artist's Description

I found an old piece of an elm log in our firewood stack. The pattern in the wood is caused by a blue stain fungus and cracks in the surface of the wood. I soaked the log briefly which brought out the rich colors and grain in the wood.

Jim Zablotny is a natural historian, entomologist, and nature photographer from Fenton, Michigan. His present work emphasizes color, detail, and bold composition of natural subjects.
