Black-eyed Susan plants are short lived colonizers in disturbed field and prairie habitats. The flowers provide nectar and pollen for native bees, butterflies, and moths.

Jim Zablotny is a natural historian, entomologist, and nature photographer from Fenton, Michigan. His present work emphasizes color, detail, and bold composition of natural subjects.
