Artist's Description

Downy woodpeckers are the smallest species of woodpecker found in Michigan and are a favorite photography subject. This little male managed to crack open my Droll Yankee thistle seed feeder to get at the last sunflower chips at the bottom of the tube. Now the feeder has a duct tape patch and has been refilled with seed.

Jim Zablotny is a natural historian, entomologist, and nature photographer from Fenton, Michigan. His present work emphasizes color, detail, and bold composition of natural subjects. His artistic endeavors included scientific illustration, and presently nature photography with subjects ranging from macro photographs of insects and wildflowers, to birds, reptiles,amphibians, and mammals.
