Description
The Eastern prairie fringed orchid is an endangered plant species in North America. Extensive farming and development of the habitat where this plant once grew is the main reason for its rarity. I was fortunate to see and photograph one of these rarities in a small tract of lake plain prairie. A few others that I saw had been pollinated by sphinx moths. The flowers emit a wonderful fragrance which serves to attract these pollinators.
