Description
Ochre starfish are responsible for the species diversity found on rocks in the intertidal zone of the rocky seacoast of the Pacific Northwest. By feeding on common rock encrusting species it frees up space on the rocks to be colonized by less common species. Unfortunately, these starfish are uncommon to rare due to an increase in water temperatures which makes them more susceptible to sea star wasting disease.
