Western trilliums were in bloom when we were attending the Newfoundland National Specialty near Lincoln City, Oregon. This individual plant was growing beneath some Sitka spruce and seemed to thrive in this extremely wet forest environment. I prefer to use longer lenses for large wildflowers such as this trillium which enables me to successfully isolate the subject from the background.
Jim Zablotny is a natural historian, entomologist, and nature photographer from Fenton, Michigan. His present work emphasizes color, detail, and bold composition of natural subjects.
