Description
Northern saw-whet owls are small and secretive birds of prey that rarely get noticed during migration. In Northern Michigan bird banders have been studying the migration patterns of these owls. This particular owl was first banded last year and was recaptured at the same locality. Recapturing a banded individual can reveal the bird's overall condition, an estimate of age, and distance traveled between trap sites.
