This image was a lot of fun from start to finish I was able to exploit the available dynamic range by combining a stacked series of under-exposed, over-exposed, with normal exposures to produce an image with detailed highlights and shadows. A square crop enhances the abstraction to provide a fun image for examination. This bracket fungus is known as the turkey tail fungus and is one of the more common species found in deciduous forests.
Jim Zablotny is a natural historian, entomologist, and nature photographer from Fenton, Michigan. His present work emphasizes color, detail, and bold composition of natural subjects.
